PEI has conducted a number of forensic assessment and cost recovery/allocation projects for both private property owners and law firms. For one confidential Western New York property owner, PEI conducted a integrated forensic approach which involved a series of coordinated steps including detailed historical review, geophysics, site assessment, remediation, and closure. For another confidential client PEI provided forensic expertise to support a court arbitration concerning four separate gasoline service stations. This project required a detailed review of existing files and legal briefs as well as a detailed historical analysis including property use and ownership history, environmental assessment history and past investigation data and methodology, contamination/spill history, property use/incident time line, geology/hydrogeology assessment, assessment of analytical results and past forensic chemistry, history of property’s petroleum use and product types, as-built diagrams and property surveys.
